Runners took the Gondola up to the top of the mountain and ran in the high alpine. The Sport course was 4.9km, the Enduro 10.6. According to the official description the race has some steep climbs, sharp descents and craggy wilderness trails…and tremendous views!
Grant and Arthur did the Enduro:
Grant: 1:17:45
Arthur: 1:55:59
Ross did the Sport Course 36:18 (2nd Clydesdale!)
Ah yes, the Garden Bay / Four Lakes 10 km is rapidly becoming my favourite race. I’m 2 for 2 - ran it twice and placed twice. Of course today’s race was by far my personal worst - but that was quickly forgotten when my name was called for 3rd in my division (and even more exciting - there were more than 3 people in the division - which means I was not actually last in the race. A real accomplishment!)
The race started with the following announcement “Don’t pay too much attention to the km signs because I think 5 & 6 are reversed and 4 is still in the back of the truck.” Followed by the RD attempting to scratch a start line it the dirt and then saying - GO.
And it finished this way
Dave 57:05 (had a stronger finishing kick than Mike; got him in the last 100 m. All that marathon training.)
Mike 57:10 (no finishing kick whatsoever. All that beer drinking.)
Jackie 58:58 - (watch out Dave and Mike - she’ll beat you both next year.)
Nicki 1:06:04 - (sadly, good enough for 3rd in the division.)
I’d encourage more PRRers to spend a weekend on the coast next year and check out this race - but then I won’t get an award. So stay home or I’ll actually have to train.
