Scotia Half Results
Posted by: PRR Executive @ 11:30 pm

We had at least one first time halfer among the dozen PRR runners in the Scotia Half.  And among our veterans - some “recent” bests. Can’t ask for better weather than today’s.  Just be happy Catherine wasn’t running.  I tend to believe her theory that she is the weather jinx.

(If I missed anyone - just email me and I’ll update the site with your result.)

Okay - in time order

Bill C 1:33:46
Carla 1:46:49 (Was this your first one Carla? Well done!)
Cherryl 1:47:44 - first ever half marathon. automatic PB.
Monique 1:49:13 - hey that’s 3 minutes faster than last week.  What do you have planned for next week?
Dianna 1:49:43
Premica 1:54:22
Arthur 2:03:08
Dan 2:04:20
Len 2:08:33
Paul 2:11:11
Bonnie 2:11:34
Samantha 2:25:22

Trail runs - June 14 and 21
Posted by: PRR Executive @ 11:52 pm

Tis the season for trail running - and club members are out there enjoying it.

Burnaby Mountain - June 13

Doug and Ross took part in the Burnaby mountain race - one of the Five Peaks trail runs.
Ross ran the 6.3 km Sport run in 40:27 - 3rd overall in the Athena/Clydesdale division.  What does that mean?  Beats me.  We’ll have to ask Ross (somehow doesn’t sound flattering though!)
Doug chose the 9.8 km Enduro course and completed it in 1:07:53

For more on the Five Peaks:  http://www.5peaks.com/schedule.asp?p=bc&raceid=157  (note that Laura strongly recommends the Sun Peaks edition.)

Summer Solstice Trail Marathon / Half Marathon - June 20

Grant was 3rd in his division in 5:38:44
Ed’s Knee Knacker training brought him in at 7:30:35

Well done gents.

Chips Not Dead Yet and the Anchorage Half Marathon
Filed under: Races
Posted by: PRR Executive @ 6:38 pm

18 PRR participants - in various states of (un)dress participated in Chips Mile race. One PRRer ventured further north to spend the longest day in Alaska.

Anchorage Half Marathon - June 20

Congratulations Monique on coming 2nd in your age group with a Half Marathon time of 1:52:4.  (We know that your real marathon this week was the travel - from Tofino to Halifax, barely home then off to Alaska.  If only the “jet set” life was as glamorous as it sounds. Enjoy the trip home!)

Chip’s Not Dead Yet - June 20

First came the pooch parade - and yes, I did have to carry the dog part way.  Then the super heros.  I hope you all enjoy pictures of Quin - our 2nd youngest honorary PRR member - and Allen with his big sister Catherine (and their parents of course.) Doug had his kids out as well.

Then the timed mile where Russell burned up the hill in just under 6 minutes (5:56.6) despite the head wind - to finish 2nd overall and 1st in his division, 20 seconds behind a guy in a loin cloth.  You don’t want to get to close to that!  Arthur also participated in the timed mile - and given the ever-present, ever-changing hat, imagine how the head wind affected him.  9:50.5 for Arthur.

As an added bonus - there was a group of librarians participating in the Rock Star wave - and our very own Kathy H - with pink streaked hair - was among them.  Nice to see you Kathy!

Despite the fact that the elite race is supposed to be the main event - let’s face it we were all waiting for the underwear category.  This wave isn’t officially timed - but it is fun to watch.  Someone should tell that guy with the serious red underwear wedgie to go ahead and buy a g string.  Bit of a an exhibitionist that one.

As for our team - well Ellie was the first woman to cross the line, followed by John, Susan, Rik, Dave, Monika and Dan.  Dave was the only person out there who appeared to be wearing slippers.  Nice touch.  Didn’t slow him down at all.

Edge to Edge

18 PRRers journeyed to the West Coast of the Island to spend a gorgeous weekend at the hotsprings, on the beach, at the spa…  Oh ya, we ran too.

This is going to be a tough weekend to beat.  Those of you who didn’t join us this year - mark it on your calendar for next year.  E2E is a great small event.  And when you have Monique as the organizer-extraordinaire, the weekend takes on added dimension.  But more on that in the next newsletter.

We had two superstars who ran solo events:

Jackie M - first ever Half Marathon (which means it’s an automatic Personal Best) 2:17:41 on an *f-ing* hilly course.

Dave M - first (last and only) Full Marathon (which means it’s an automatic Personal Best) 4:40:25.

FANTASTIC result for the Ms.

The rest of us wussed out and ran the relay.  All the fun of participating without any of the hassle of training.

PRR 1 - 3:29:13 6th overall.  Team Members: Len, Monika, Dean, Premica, Grant
PRR 2 - 3:39:51 3rd in the women’s division! Team Members: Dianna, Monique, Nicki, Laura, Emily
PRR 3 - 4:02:41 Team Members: Arthur, Lynne, Ian, Bill, Mike

The weekend ended early for 10 of the 18 participants who very responsibly returned to their day jobs on Monday.  The rest of the slackers hung around for a beach fire on Sunday night and for the Sea Lion show from the patio of a Ucluelet restaurant on Monday. City folk pay big money to see this kind of thing in aquariums.

A great time was had by all.

Longest Day 5 & 10 km results
Posted by: PRR Executive @ 10:20 pm

Nice evening for a run.  The Longest Day Race is a favourite - because of the unusual time -Friday evening - and because of the post race BBQ.

This year we had a smaller turnout due to a conflicting event (more on that in a separate posting) but the following PRRers ran the race - and hopefully saw Dave and Jackie marshalling along the way:

5km
Russell 17:25 - 4th in his age group  - (what’s up with the 20 year age groups???)
Dan 27:01 - 10th in his age group

10km
Holly 40:45 - 2nd woman overall!!
John - 42:29
Bill C - 43:28
Sam T 43:31
Paul P 59:43

Congratulations runners.

If you can’t put a face to the names (say for our newest members Sam and Holly) then it must be time to show up for a club night or for the July BBQ.  Watch for email updates on the July social.

A slightly less local race
Posted by: PRR Executive @ 10:12 am

Our only father and son “team”, currently in training for the Knee Knacker, decided to go a little farther than Bellingham or Kelowna for their ultra race this past weekend.  How does Peru sound?

Jon and Ross completed the Inca Trail Marathon (hey they need to rename it.  I don’t care if it’s 42.3 - anything over 42.2 is an Ultra!)- a 45 km run at high elevation from Cusco to Macchu Pichu.  The run starts at 11000 ft  - never drops below 8000 ft and climbs to a summit of almost 14000.  Now that’s an adventure.

Ross completed the run in 8:03:02.  Jon’s time was 8:29:21.

We’re definitely expecting a newsletter article out of this one!

Anyone else want to join our club? We meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:55 at the False Creek Community Center.  Come for a run.

Big weekend for PRR runners!

North Face Endurance Challenge - Bellingham - June 6
50 miles and lots of elevation.  For Jess and Bill this run is just a drop in the mileage bucket.  All part of the training plan for the 125km Death Race in August.  If you ask me the hardest part is the 5:00am start - then it gets worse from there!

Bill:   10:43:34
Jess: 13:16 apparently if you’re stung by a bee en route you forget about the pain in the rest of your body.  Ask Jess for more details.

Scorched Sole - Kelowna - June 6
Stephen, Matt, and Sukhi ran this event on the restored Myra Canyon Trestles in Kelowna.  Hopefully the cooler weather made it into the interior in time.  The event has 25km, 50km and 50 mile distances.  All 3 PRRers were in the 50km.

Matt and Stephen tied although if I were Matt I’d claim lifelong superiority due to the fact that he is listed ahead of Stephen in the results.    5:32:22.    Matt was first in his division.  Stephen was second in his but not because of the alphabet - they’re in different divisions.  (PS - where have you guys been lately?)

Sukhi came in at 5:37:33 (geez Sukhi, you can’t let those young guys beat you like that!)

Sandcastle City 10km - White Rock - June 7
Arthur ran this one in 54:03 with Dan hot on his heels at 56:14.  This race is part of the Timex and Lower Mainland Running Series - and I believe both Dan and Arthur are racking up the participant points.

Grouse Grind Social

No club run on Tuesday June 9.  Instead we’ll meet in the parking lot at Grouse Mountain and do the Grind then have dinner after.  This is traditionally a big social for us. Post event picture links will be posted here.

Post event update: Wow - 50 or so club members - that’s more than half.  Love to see that kind of participation in a social.

Welcome to Rick, Alex, Holly and Sam - our newest members.  That takes us to 95 club members.  We’re aiming for 100 by the end of the summer.  Come join us for a Tuesday or Thursday run! (Be forewarned - any summer run in hot weather can easily turn into an “ice cream run”.  Bring money and enjoy a gelato en route!)

Late May Running Results

Dan was the only PRR participant in Sunday’s Shaughnessy 8km race.  His time - 45:05

Meanwhile Ed and Arthur went just a wee bit further.  25 km in the Iron Knee.  Good training for the Knee Knacker.  Ed’s time 2:23:18 (note:  claims a chip time of 2:19) - Arthur’s time 3:53:07. Hopefully he’ll stay injury free for the KK this year.
