Welcome to our 2 newest members - Allison and Elliott. Anyone else want to join a running/social club? We meet at 6:00 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays at the False Creek Community Centre. We don’t have formal pace groups - but you’re likely to find people to run with if your speed is anywhere between 6-10 minute miles!
3 PRR members participated in this race on Oct 25. But did any of them wear costumes?
Laura ran the 10k in 1:04:45
Grant and Ross ran the Half Marathon coming in at 2:06:54 and 2:20:59, respectively.
The Burnaby Lake 7 miler and Half Marathon was likely well suited to ducks this year. I’m guessing there were some big puddles! We had 2 PRRers in it.
Susan - recovering from injury - still managed to finish as the first woman in the 7 miler - at 46:45. Sadly the 7 miler doesn’t reward you with as big a duck as she received for her win in the half marathon last year.
Dave M ran the half in 2:04:39 - convinced to enter by Jackie whose name was mysteriously absent from the results.
With 105 club members, it’s harder to recognize the names as I scan the results list. So if you ran this race (or any other race) over the weekend - let me know and I’ll post your result.
Sit back, cut yourself an extra slice of pie and grab a cup of coffee. It may take a while to get through the Thanksgiving weekend results - because we had 20+ runners participating in various events.
Starting from the furthest away - David Parker ran the Chicago marathon in a terrific 3:10:54. Should be proud of that one!
Victoria:
We had runners entered in all 3 distances on a truly spectacular day. (Thanks to Karen and Catherine - the self-proclaimed weather jinxes - for NOT running this race!)
8km
Monika - 40:13
Deanna - 49:30 (how long has it been since we’ve seen Deanna’s name in the results??)
Half
Janet 1:38:34
Emily 1:57:08
Ian 2:00:37 (first ever half - automatic PB)
Bill P 2:11:27 - running with his old nemesis and former training partner Bill R. They appeared to enjoy the race.
Nicki & Mike 2:17:23 (I promise I’ll train next time.)
Our PRR Masters team placed fifth.
Full
Ross 3:33:49
Sukhi 3:37:48 - in his 20th marathon!
Monique - 3:52:51 (never believe her when she says she’s expecting a 4:15 finish)
Jon - 3:58:46 - meeting his goal of under 4 hrs
Carol - 4:05:28 - 3rd in her age group!!!!!
David Poon - 4:16:33
Dan - 4:32:32
Arthur - 4:57:23
Our PRR Masters team placed fifth - even though Monique and Carol’s results weren’t counted. If we can get that fixed we might move up the rankings.
North Shore Half Marathon
A personal best for Bill C - 1:28:36!!
And finally closest to home - the Turkey Trot.
Susan - 44:21.9 (still recovering)
Mark S - 44:12.3 (H2H training)
Len 57:31.4
There were supposed to be two Parslows in this race but unfortunately Matthew hasn’t recovered from his injury yet.
But Stephen had a great run - completing the race in 3:33 and change. We’re looking forward to hearing about it.
Gone but not forgotten - Ellie’s still a club member and we’ll continue to track her accomplishments. Even when they’re at silly-named Ontario trail runs. This race is a big 25/50 km race. You can read all about it on their website. http://www.runforthetoad.com/home.html
What’s most important to us is that Ellie was there - and she won the 50 km in a time of 3:54 - Smashed the women’s record and came in fourth overall.
(Thanks Susan and John for catching the results error.)
What better way to spend a sunny Sunday than to run 26 km through the trails. From the Rubble Creek website - here is a course description
The Rubble Creek Classic climbs from Cheakamus Lake trail up (2915ft) and across Helm Creek flats giving spectacular panoramic views along the way. With the final a knee jarring decent of 4015ft. to finish at the Rubble creek Parking lot.
Sounds like exactly the kind of race that would appeal to our trail running enthusiasts. John, Terry and Ellie took on the challenge - with Sukhi as their chauffeur.
Ellie won - of course! (2:19)`John was the fastest in his age group (2:40) even though they don’t officially recognize age groups. And Terry had the best fall. In fact Terry should win a perseverance award because he finished the race despite having broken a couple of ribs en route. They were so worried about getting him some medical attention when he crossed the finish line that they forgot to record his time - literally adding insult to injury. But he officially finished. Hope you heal quickly Terry!
