April 23rd, 2009 at 12:04 am Congratulations to Doug and Monika! Good work, both of you. I actually saw Art Boileau from Forerunners at about 17 miles. He finished with a 2:52 time. Not quite what he did when he was 2nd in 1986, but he was looking good. What happened to Janna at 35km was the previous 35km. Just went way too fast and when things started to crash it happened quickly. She had to walk more or less from 35km. She is in good spirits though - even talking about signing up to do the half at Vancouver. She knows what she did. Boston is a sneaky dirty course sometimes if you don’t run the first part with discipline and control - it can get the best of them. Very deceptive downhill at the start that sucks people into going too fast, then grinding hills from about 16 to 21 miles that suck everything out of you and just when you think at least it will be downhill (mostly) from Heartbreak Hill, the muscles start to cramp up and the downhill gets harder than going up. Anyway, Daddy is very proud and she was a trooper - she finished regardless. It was Boston, afterall!
