June trail running results

The first weekend in June was a big one for Ultra races.  This update includes Jess and Bill’s double knee knacker (Vancouver 100) results.  Ellie’s Scorched Sole result (she won of course) is below the Vancouver 100 update.

June 7 - Bill & Jess started their Vancouver 100 from Deep Cove at 6 am.  Bill won the event finishing an amazing 15 h 7 min later.  He was paced along the way by Susan & John (Cypress to Cleveland Dam) and Terry (Cleveland Dam to the finish). All three reported that even after he’d been running for 10 + hours , they had to work at staying ahead of him.  So did his crew - Bill was so far ahead of his own predicted time that his crew missed him at the first aid stop.  Luckily there were other crews there to feed & water him.

Bill finished 2h 23 min ahead of his prediction and at least an hour ahead of the next runner.

Jess was the first (and only) woman to finish.  Sukhi paced her from Cypress over Black Mountain and back.  She had Fat Ass friends Michelle & Baldwin with her the rest of the way.  And a small but dedicated PRR cheering section at Cleveland Dam when she passed it after 1:00 am (Dave, Jackie, Sally, Mike S) plus Bill who was now taking over crew responsibilities.

Jess’s time:   28 hours.  finished at 10 am Sunday.

Which performance is more amazing - the insanely fast one, or the insanely persevering one?  Answer:  both are truly inspiring.

Next up:  100 miler at Stormy. Applications for crew being accepted (Bill may have a preference for people who actually show up!! Sorry about that Bill).

And now for Ellie’s results:

Ellie finished the Scorched Sole run in 4h 39 min.  First woman, second overall.  Perfect cool weather for a run in Kelowna.  We’re getting so used to Ellie winning things that we’re starting to expect it.  I could have written this posting before she started!  But we’re all still proud of you Ellie - can’t wait to see what you’ll win next.  No pressure!
