Report from the Maui Marathon
Posted by: PRR Executive @ 1:13 pm

Well, the marathon is over.  Thanks for your good wishes.  They helped.  It was a brutal day.  If only we could have run yesterday (the marathoner’s lament).  Today it was super hot and humid and we had VOG (smog generated by the erupting volcano on the Big Island).  Around the time I finished it was around 84F and with what the weather forecast called a “real feel” of 90F!

My time (not particularly impressive until put in context) was 5:06:23.  With that not so impressive time, I finished 417/808.  They said 1100 registered but the results are given only for finishers.  As we all know, in a marathon there are always a number of no shows, but with the DNF’s that I am certain we had today, I was right about the middle.

HOWEVER, I was a top 10 finisher in my division (M60-64) at 8/26.  That really makes me happy!  AND, the first PRR finisher, too.  OK, so I was the ONLY PRR finisher, but that isn’t my fault!

The event was well run and for those not interested in running and sipping wine, this one should be considered.  There will be pictures later.  The race web site is at www.mauimarathon.com for those who want to explore for themselves.
